March 18, 2020 Update:

Dear NCC Family in Nampa and Middleton,

We are continuing to monitor the public recommendations in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. In response to the current local and federal recommendations we are going to suspend all worship services, Sunday school classes, on-campus ministry groups, midweek meals and bible studies on the Nampa and Middleton campuses through at least March 31. There is a high likelihood that our need to suspend services may go beyond that date, but for now, we will suspend services through the month and see what the next weeks hold.

Thanks to all who joined us on Sunday for the service broadcast. We will continue to stream a worship service live the next two Sundays at 10:45am. You can access the service through the College Church webpage or through Facebook Live at Two common questions we have received are: do we have to have a Facebook account to access the service? And, if we can’t log on at 10:45am, can we watch the service at a later time? The answers are: No, you do not have to have a Facebook account to watch the Facebook Live broadcast each week. If you follow the link from the website it should take you there with or without a Facebook account. And yes, the video recording of the service will be archived online and can be accessed on the website throughout the week.

I realize that one of the important ways that we worship is through giving. It is always possible to give electronically through the church’s website. This might also be a good time to download the NCC app on your smart phone. You can find it by searching for “Nampa College Church” in the app store. Electronic (and repeated) giving can be set up and done through the app as well. Of course, tithe checks can be sent through the mail: Nampa College Church 504 E. Dewey Ave., Nampa, ID 83686.

You will likely receive a call from either a staff or church member over the next couple of days checking in on you and making sure that the needs of the body are being met. We want to do all that we can to care for one another and our neighbors during this time.

Also look for an end of the year video report from me later in the week as well as information on how to participate in an important congregational vote.

This week, Debbie took a roll of toilet paper and a gift to each of our neighbors to check on them and make sure they are okay. Most were fine, but it did open the door for our family to be of help to a couple of our neighbors who are both battling cancer, are without available family, and could use a bit of neighborly care. Who knows how God will draw us to one another and to those around us during this time? The Church is not just a place we go, it is something that, by God’s grace, we are becoming.

See you on Facebook Live Sunday at 10:45.

March 14, 2020 Update:

Dear NCC Family in Nampa and Middleton,

Like most of you, we have continued to monitor the public recommendations in response to the

COVID-19 outbreak.

On Friday, the City of Nampa approved an emergency resolution limiting mass gatherings at city venues, and NNU has suspended all face-to-face courses immediately until at least April 14.

Because we are an intentionally intergenerational congregation, we have physically vulnerable people from old to young, and several with unique challenges in between. So, to fault on the side of caution, and to embody love of neighbor, we have decided to suspend all worship services, Sunday school classes, on-campus ministry groups, midweek meals and bible studies on the Nampa and Middleton campuses until further notice.

This Sunday, March 15th, you are invited to join us online for worship and a message through Facebook Live at beginning at 10:45am. Because we will be unable to have our annual meeting Sunday evening, I will post an annual meeting video later in the week with instructions on how to submit any questions.

As we move into next week, we will continue to monitor the situation and keep updating the church family with future decisions about services, meetings, and events. In the meantime, we will not stop being the Church. We do not want to allow fear to hinder the ways we love and care for one another. For now, the church office will be operating normally, so if there are ways we can help you individually and encourage one another during this very unique and challenging time, please let us know.

It breaks my heart that we may not be able to gather in our regular practices of worship for a little while, especially during this very holy season. However, in one of my favorite books, The Rise of Christianity, sociologist and historian Rodney Stark describes how the early church grew because during times of cultural fear and threatening epidemics, rather than running away from needs, the church boldly stepped forward to love and care for those who were most vulnerable. This may be the moment for this generation to respond to the needs and fears of our neighbors in ways that extend the redemptive mission of God.

Thanks for being patient with us as we try to discern how to be both faithful and wise during this unique time. I hope, by God’s grace, this time will pass quickly, and we will all be back together worshiping as a body soon. Until then, let us pray without ceasing and love without calculation.

See you on Facebook Live Sunday at 10:45.
